RTV Molding / Urethane Castings

Service

Rapid-cure silicone molds (RTV molds) generate precise and operational urethane cast components. Urethane castings mimic injection-molded parts in both look and durability, but with a significantly faster turnaround time. The process starts with the creation of a high-definition master model using stereolithography (SLA), Polyjet, FDM, or CNC machining. This master is then used to form the cavity of the flexible silicone-based RTV mold. Even molds for multiple similar parts (family molds) can be created. After the master is removed from the mold, urethane, epoxy, or silicone-based materials are injected into the mold under low pressure, resulting in parts that are free of bubbles and surface flaws. The process is consistent, and a single mold can produce up to 40 parts. A wide range of Shore A and Shore D durometer materials are available, along with transparent materials and various grades of Shore A silicone. All parts from Additive Manufacturing LLC are cast in color and with surface texture. Additional processes can be applied after casting, such as inserting components, adding electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, painting, plating, and more. Fillers can also be incorporated to enhance strength and meet specific material needs. Parts of any size, shape, and complexity can be produced, including overmolded assemblies. Our largest single-piece part can be over 6 feet by 6 feet by 5 feet.

Materials

Low-volume, moldable silicone (RTV) is a rapid prototyping technique for creating between 5 and over 300 components. The available materials closely mimic injection-molded plastic, rubber, and silicone.
