High-performance for medium to large batches, pressure die casting is a metalworking alternative to injection molding for many complex shapes. This process involves creating a mold (die) that the molten metal is forced into under high pressure (between 1,500 and 25,000 psi). Once the metal solidifies within the die, similar to injection molding, the finished parts are ejected using ejector pins, and any excess material (gating) is removed. This gating removal can be done by hand or by machine. Common materials used in pressure die casting include aluminum, magnesium, copper, and zinc. Typical tolerances start at +/- 0.005 inches (0.127 mm) and increase by +/- 0.002 inches (0.05 mm) for each additional inch of part size
DMLS is a cutting-edge method for creating intricate metal components using a layer-by-layer approach. These parts are often too complex for traditional machining or casting techniques. DMLS offers a wide range of materials to choose from.
